Where Should I Go Next? 4 Great Places for Culture and Relaxation
December 24, 2024
Traveling is all about discovering new places that blend cultural richness with opportunities to unwind. My next adventure is all about diving into unique traditions, exploring historical landmarks, and finding moments of pure tranquility. After some research and daydreaming, I’ve narrowed down four incredible destinations. Now the question is: which one should I explore next?
1. Ireland: A Journey Through History and Nature
Ireland has always been on my radar, and for good reason. It’s a place where dramatic cliffs meet lush green countryside, and where every corner tells a story.

I could start in Dublin, wandering the cobbled streets of Trinity College (where Sienna will be studying next summer) and marveling at the ancient Book of Kells, or enjoy a pint in a cozy pub filled with live music. Then, heading out to the Cliffs of Moher or Killarney National Park would offer a chance to immerse myself in Ireland’s breathtaking landscapes. Would Ireland’s mix of rich history and natural beauty make it the perfect next destination?
2. Crete, Greece: Ancient Ruins and Stunning Beaches
Crete feels like the ultimate blend of adventure and relaxation. The thought of walking through the Palace of Knossos, surrounded by Greek mythology (Sienna would love it) and ancient history, is exciting enough—but pairing that with crystal-clear beaches? Sign me up.
Exploring the charming towns of Chania and Rethymno sounds like the perfect way to experience local culture, while hiking the Samaria Gorge would be a refreshing challenge. If I’m looking for history, relaxation, and a bit of sun-soaked bliss, could Crete be the next stop? This would be Kiley’s first choice!

3. Lisbon, Portugal: Charm, Culture, and Coastal Vibes
Lisbon offers an irresistible mix of city life and relaxation. The Alfama district is calling my name with its vibrant streets, historic architecture, and fado music. Plus, landmarks like Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery would make for a fascinating dive into Portugal’s maritime history.

But what really tempts me are Lisbon’s miradouros (viewpoints). I can already picture myself savoring a pastel de nata while watching the sunset over the Tagus River. Should Lisbon’s charm and laid-back vibes be the next chapter of my travel journey?
4. The Big Island, Hawaii: Nature’s Majesty and Island Serenity
The Big Island of Hawaii is a destination that seems to have it all—stunning landscapes, unique cultural experiences, and endless opportunities to relax.
I’d love to explore Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, witnessing the power of Kīlauea (which is erupting, again) and Mauna Loa up close. Learning about native Hawaiian traditions at Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park would add depth to the trip. And let’s not forget the coffee! The Kona coffee region is a must-visit for its world-renowned, flavorful brews. Imagine sipping freshly brewed coffee while overlooking the lush, volcanic landscape. Add in the island’s black sand beaches and tranquil energy, and it’s hard not to picture myself there. Is the Big Island calling my name next?

Help Me Decide!
Each of these destinations offers something unique: Ireland’s historical charm and natural beauty, Crete’s ancient ruins and seaside allure, Lisbon’s vibrant culture and easygoing vibe, and the Big Island’s unparalleled mix of adventure and relaxation.

Great list! I’ve been to Crete and the Big Island and loved them both. The other two are on my list as well.
